A2SEA has been nominated for the “Working Environment Award 2016” by the Working Environment Committee. The nomination is a result of the campaign “Work wise, think twice”, which addresses injuries on the musculoskeletal system. The winner will be announced on 24 November.
In 2015, an analysis of occupational injuries and absence due to illness revealed a need to focus on reducing strenuous working postures, heavy lifts, etc. which may lead to physical degeneration among the employees.
During the spring and early summer, Kristina Pind Løvgren, HSE Manager Compliance visited the vessels together with a representative from Arbejdsmiljøeksperten (occupational health and safety experts). The seamen were trained in ergonomics, rules and recommendations on how to design the workplace and on how to best apply technical aids. However, it was not all theory. After the lessons, the employees trained in transforming the theoretical knowledge acquired into actual solutions in their own work stations and tasks through inspection rounds on the vessel and test of solutions.
Chair of the Danish Working Environment Council, Lisbeth Lollike on the nomination: “At A2SEA they have come far by creating a close link between theoretical knowledge and the actual conditions in the workplace. The employees have been involved in the entire process of finding solutions, and I believe that has increased their sense of ownership and made an already strong safety culture even stronger.”
The winner will be announced on 24 November at a ceremony in Copenhagen.
