SEA INSTALLER gets a twin sister: NB 002

Before SEA INSTALLER has even left the shipyard, A2SEA has signed a brand new contract with COSCO Shipyard Group Co. Ltd., for the construction of yet another jack-up vessel specially designed for installing Offshore Wind turbines.

The USD 155 million agreement with CO SCO Shipyard Group Co. Ltd. is for a vessel that’s almost identical to SEA INSTALLER. Of course, it’s no easy task to improve on SEA INSTALLER’s capabilities, but this new vessel does feature a larger crane that can lift up to 900 tonnes – 100 tonnes more than its sister ship. The increased lifting capacity will meet the trend toward even larger turbines engineered for offshore use.

With delivery expected in 2014, the new vessel will be optimised to operate at depths of up to 45 metres, making it well suited to installing upcoming Offshore Wind
projects in Northern Europe.

“The offshore market in Northern Europe is growing quickly, and we can see that the demand for installation vessels will grow dramatically. With this new vessel, we are well prepared to meet that demand, strengthening our position as a supplier of installation services,” says Jens Frederik Hansen, CEO, A2SEA. “And we’ve taken another big step toward shortening installation time, thereby bringing down the cost of Offshore Wind energy.”
