M/V SEA ENERGY
A2SEA own and operate two vessels, M/V SEA ENERGY and M/V SEA POWER. Both vessels were originally feeder-type container ships but were converted by A2SEA in 2001 into self elevating crane ships, specifically designed to meet the requirements of the offshore wind farm market.
Subsequently, SEA ENERGY was upgraded with longer legs and an improved jacking system to enable it to operate in water depths of up to 27 metres so that it could provide services in deeper water.
The vessels have four jacking legs operated by a wire pulley system, enabling the legs to take the weight of the vessel by raising the hull a short distance within the water. This provides a stable platform from which crane operations can be performed.
The propulsion arrangement comprises diesel powered twin screw engines driving controllable pitch propeller drives, twin rudders that can operate independently and a bow thruster unit, making them quite manoeuvrable. With their own propulsion and heavy lift cranes the vessels are self contained so the operation does not depend on other supply vessels or tugs.
